Top 4 Spring Tips for a Healthy Mouth

Think it’s time for a little spring cleaning around your home? Well, this surely is the best time to get all the hidden dirt and grime off the floors and walls, and de-cluttering in all your rooms so your home can finally breathe easy. But did you know that the same can be said of oral health? Shreveport dentist shares four spring tips for a healthy mouth.

While dental health and hygiene are things we promote all year, for perpetually busy bees like you, we say why not get your teeth checked, cleaned and cared for by your Shreveport dentist, Dr. Ben Kacos this pleasant time of the year? These four spring tips for a healthy mouth will help you freshen up your oral health routine.

Tip #1. Examine those toothbrushes

How long have your toothbrushes been standing in your toothbrush holder, like really, for how long? If you can’t remember when you last replaced your toothbrush anymore, then it’s safe to assume it’s been far too long.

Everyone knows dentists recommend toothbrush replacement every three months. When toothbrush bristles become old and worn, they won’t be able to efficiently clean your teeth, especially those hard-to-reach cracks and crevices where food debris and bacteria are likely to hide. So, get a new one and give your old toothbrush a permanent vacation.

Tip #2. Do a dental floss inventory

One flossing session is said to use up about 18 inches of dental floss which adds up to approximately 45 feet of dental floss per month! That’s quite a bit of dental floss use, and you’d better make sure you’re well-stocked for the season.

Tip #3. Check out your mouthwash

You’re one of those people who always has a bottle of mouthwash or rinse standing in their bathroom counter. But you sometimes find yourself forgoing your mouthwash when pressed for time.

This can happen a lot of times so you may miss being able to use it when it is still capable of giving your mouth optimal protection. So check the label and see if it isn’t way past the expiration date. Its taste and efficacy will be affected if it is expired.

Use it now if it’s still good. And the next time you purchase mouthwash, commit to using it religiously.

Tip #4. Get an appointment and show up at your dentist’s clinic

If you’ve found yourself constantly putting off going to your dentist because, anyway, there’s nothing wrong with your teeth, then think long and hard about what you are doing.

It is recommended that you get a professional dental cleaning every six months by your dentist, which is just twice in a year! So no matter how busy you are, make time for your teeth and your Shreveport dentist. You’ll thank yourself for being so disciplined a couple of years down the line.
